Tourism contributes billions to the economy
At the 42nd Annual Governor’s Conference on Tourism, Gov Crist revealed that in 2008 tourism returned $3.9 billion in tax revenue and pumped $65.2 billion into the economy in direct economic impact.The talk at the conference is often dominated by talk of the damage of hurricanes, but with a quiet season on that front so far, the talk was all of the economy. Many of the travel industry professionals present expressed cautious optimism that the worst is over, and that hotels/resorts are now seeing a return to some stability from the days of steep room rate cuts. However, now Florida’s schools have gone back, Swine flu is being seen as the ‘Wild card’.
